The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

by Terrance McArthur

If you say, “I’m going to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” some people will reply, “How far is Putnam County?” This month, it’s only as far as the Bonner Auditorium at Fresno Art Museum, where StageWorks Fresno is presenting the musical through September 18.

If you’re looking for a fun, and very funny, night at the theatre you should head over to the Ice House in Visalia and check out The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
I had the pleasure of following this show behind the scenes for several weeks from beginning to end doing a series of videos and video interviews. It was a lot of fun, I learned a lot I didn’t know, and it reminded me just how much work goes into putting a show together. All that hard work definitely paid off.

Get ready for a romp down memory lane with the Visalia Players’ musical season opener The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Six spellers, adults playing youngsters, arrive at the national contest overseen by Rona Lisa Peretti (Ali Malingen). Rona’s helpers are Douglas Panch (Sean Hopper) the “word giver” and Mitch Mahoney (Cristian Duran) the “comfort counselor.”
