Nykole Sullivan and her mom Terry Hibbs put together a bistro where artists can express their passion. Nykole’s husband Bob says that their bistro is “a family restaurant first, but you come here for the music.” All fourteen indoor tables are in line with the stage as a focal point. New speakers and a stage that fits over the outside fountain in the patio area brings the entertainment outdoors as well.

Since iconic Fresno eatery The Downtown Club reopened as The Republican last November, the historic building in downtown Fresno has gotten a new lease on life. Kings River Life sat down with Republican co-owner Kate McKnight to talk menus and venues ahead of the bar-and-grill’s new schedule starting May 2.

“On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” – Revelation 22:2
The tree stands at 2139 Kern St. between M and L Streets. Inside the Tree of Life Café are the fruits of many local trees along with other delicacies prepared by Chef Phillip Ocheltree, under the watchful and proud eyes of his parents, Steve and Carolyn.

This January a Reedley icon reopened in downtown Reedley, The Pub. The Pub had been a staple of Reedley for years, but then suddenly was gone. Now it has reopened with new owners and a redesign, but the same familiar feel people love. Michael Boss and his family are the ones who have reopened the Pub, and we took a moment to chat with him about the “new” Pub.

Before you get out of Reedley, heading east on Manning, you ought to stop at El Rincon de America Mexican and Salvadorean Food. It’s good stuff!

Brent Walton took up barbecuing as a hobby ten years ago to help him recover from his first heart attack. In April, another attack ended his life, but his legacy lives on at the QN4U BBQ House in Clovis.

One of the first things you notice when you meet Ta-Raw Hamilton, otherwise known as “Chef Hamilton,” is passion. Ta-Raw is passionate about food, health, and life! She is passionate about ideas and building dreams. That is evident in her approach to everything she and her family do. The culinary team of Tara, Rachel, Kyal, and Ariana Hamilton are at the heart of Revive Cafe and Organic Fresno.

If you have spent any time on Facebook at all, you may have seen some promotion from a restaurant in Fresno called Eureka Burger. Quite amusingly, they post a definition for themselves on their website. It displays the word Eureka, offers the pronunciation and adds that it is an interjection. It goes on to list the word’s definition: 1) Used as an exclamation of triumph at a discovery; 2) The enlightening burger experience, accompanied by fresh ingredients, craft beer and rock n’ roll. Recently, my wife and I visited the establishment and we can report that it is exactly this.

Fette Sou (fat pig in German) is a BBQ joint wedged between a graffiti scrawled apartment building and the parking lot of Frank’s Auto Repair Shop in New York. I’d describe it as a Brooklyn Hipster hangout with an attitude of ‘we’ll do it our way’.

Expect bright, happy, cheerful food served by a bright, happy, cheerful host when you visit Raspados California in Fresno. Ricardo Aceves loves what he does and he loves the food he makes.

Welcome to KRL’s Chef’s Kitchen, a series of articles that takes us into the kitchen’s of local chefs where they share not only a personal recipe but a story behind it. This week we are in the kitchen of Martin Barcellos, chef and owner with his wife Dawn of Valentino’s Italian Restaurant in Reedley. You’ll find a discount coupon for Valentino’s at the end of this article.

As soon as you open the door of 1154 G Street in downtown Reedley, the aroma of fresh-baked cookies hangs heavy in the air. I was immediately transported back to Grandma’s kitchen, but it wasn’t Grandma behind the counter. Jessica McCahill, along with husband Josh, has recently taken over ownership of the restaurant formerly known as “Melinda’s Place” and then “JJ Dukes.” Under the new name “The Reedley Sandwich Shop,” the McCahills have extended the hours and added to the menu. I can tell you from personal experience, that the changes are good ones.

Porterville has none of the big name chain restaurants, but it does have a few gems of small owner-operated eateries. One of these—and my favorite—is the Thai Kitchen, a little hole in the wall place at 951 W. Henderson, on the north end of town right off the 65 freeway.
