Having a pet is a commitment, not something for which you beg your parents and then, two weeks later, are forced to care for. Parents should always remember that they will ultimately be caring for the animal! A decision to have a pet, therefore, needs to be a parental decision.
KRL enjoys featuring the many rat rescues around the country. This month we are chatting with Small Angels Rescue in Frederick, Maryland. They not only rescue pet rats, but other small animals as well.
The river was high that morning. Swirling brown water roiled up around the snow covered rocks at Bud Carter's feet. He was prepared for the cold, dressed in layers, starting with his flannel pajamas from the night before. Sweaters and a jacket followed on top of each other, until he felt like a turtle in its shell.
Perious Mouse took his seat beside Felicity Mouse, at the steering wheel of the wind buggy and flipped the tinted goggles on his flying cap down over his beady black eyes. The excitement was palpable in the barnyard and hardly a whisper could be heard from anyone except Piggy-Pig, who had managed to tip over the slop bucket in her pig pen.
Elegantly dressed, a vision in camel and olive tweed, she approached the Circus somewhat hesitantly. Her sweet face registered interest, like an "outside" cat approaching a roaring fire: not sure how close to come, but lured to the warmth.

This is the typical start of a conversation with non-rodent admirers, who gaze at me like I am about to bare my teeth and gibber. The “what” is most pronounced when I am talking to farm people; for some reason, they are not rodent lovers.
