This week we have the privilege of another guest post by local writer and Fresno Pacific Student Kurt Willems. This is actually parts 1 and 2 of a series on nonviolence that appeared on his blog in early 2011.
When the opportunity came up to review The Waters Run Deep by J. Wesley Gunther, I was not totally sure that I wanted to take it on. It was fairly long, and I generally prefer to read fiction. I knew it was about the heritage of a German Mennonite family that immigrated from Russia and Prussia looking for religious freedom, and eventually ended up settling in the Reedley area as farmers.
Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen is a book which comes across as if your best friend is telling the story over coffee. The author tells the story with ease and humor but does not leave much to the imagination.
