K 9

There are no immediate baby plans in the future for ambitious young Fort Worth Police Officer Megan Luz, as she is determined that nothing will come in her way of becoming a detective as soon as possible. A baby does soon take over her professional life though, a result of the Texas Safe Haven Statute of 1999 declaring that infants can legally be left in designated safe places.

Fort Worth Police Officer Megan Luz never wanted to be a police dog handler, so she never expected that her partnership with K-9 shepherd-mix Brigit could be so rewarding. Megan’s options were limited after she tasered her previous partner, a human so rude and sexist that his being called a dog would have been an insult to canines. So Megan is fortunate to have Brigit along when responding to a domestic disturbance call from Adriana Valdez, who is accusing her ex-boyfriend of being a stalker.

Nothing makes Timber Creek, Colorado’s Deputy Mattie Cobb prouder than working with her K-9 partner, Robo. It’s unfortunate that their latest assignment has them searching for Adrienne Howard, a human and animal masseuse and the girlfriend of Deputy Ken Brody. Mattie and Brody may have had their differences, but she would never have wished this upon her worst enemy. Robo proves himself to be a fantastic tracker, but this is a time when the results do not bring good news.

Mattie Lu Cobb has been working as a K-9 officer for less than a month, but her seven years of experience with the Timber Creek County Sheriff’s office means that she’s not a novice. When a meeting with a high school principal to discuss K-9 inspections is cancelled due to a callout, it’s actually a relief for Mattie who, during her childhood, ran wild through school. Although Mattie never doubts her K-9 partner, Robo’s, skills, she couldn’t predict that his first assignment would result in the discovery of a teenager’s murdered body.
