Angel: TV Review

In the midst of fog and dust, leftover from the detonation of Sunnydale High School, Buffy Summers’ heart throb, Angel, made a place for himself in Los Angeles, protecting the unsuspecting citizens from all sorts of demons. Series creator, Joss Whedon, stated that after the episode Surprise (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s second season) hit the airwaves, he knew actor, David Boreanaz, could carry his own show. Thus leading to the ensouled vampire landing his own spin-off, which spanned for five seasons, encompassing not only new ideas, and some substantially creepier episodes than the pioneer series, but brought both new faces together with familiar ones.

From March 10, 1997 to May 20, 2003, a pop culture phenomenon, that was considered to be one of the best television shows to hit the air waves, graced us on the small screen. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a mix of horror, comedy, romance and melodrama. It spanned for seven seasons and the witty dialogue of the show continues in comic book form to this day.

Beginning its ninth (possibly its final) season, Booth and Brennan are stronger than ever. Finally, getting together and making a baby in the last two seasons was the creative jolt this show needed to keep long time fans happy. Not only that, but also this season is the season where marriage finally happens unless producers are teasing us in a cruel way.

Wow just wow. Those were the first words that I could utter after watching the midnight premiere of Marvel’s The Avengers directed by Joss Whedon. After two and a half hours of just being blown away with constant amazing scenes I was literally spent. The amount of comic book fanboy moments in this film was insane and they were all so amazingly well done.

This Joss Whedon production has finally hit theaters, after being stuck in limbo due to MGM’s money woes, for a year. I was extremely excited to see Whedon and his collaborator writer and the film’s director Drew Goddard take on a horror movie after being burned out by so many sequels, remakes, reboot, reimaginings, and general gore fest that the horror genre has de-evolved into.

We are SO very excited to be able to share with KRL readers not only a review of Amber Benson’s new urban fantasy novel How To Be Death, but also a wonderful interview with the absolutely charming and sweet Amber! We also have a copy of How To Be Death to give away–details at the end of this post. For those who don’t know, Amber played Tara in the best TV show ever (in my personal opinion) Buffy The Vampire Slayer!

I had the pleasure recently of meeting Nancy Holder at a Yosemite Romance Writers Group meeting in Fresno and of hearing her speak. Nancy has written several Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel tie in books so I took some time to ask her about those and a few things about her other writing. Later this year we will be interviewing Nancy about her other writing and reviewing the first book in her new series, Unleashed!

Are you a gamer? Are you a geek? Do you like quality writing? If any of those apply to you, then you will love The Guild. The Guild is a web series created/written/starring the web-famous redhead, Felicia Day (who was also in Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible). The series is about a group of gamers who are in a guild called The Knights of Good. A guild is a group of people in an online role-playing game who take care of each other and depend on one another for their success in the game.

When I first began to see promos for Castle, I knew it was something I had to check out. Beyond the fact that he was a mystery-solving mystery writer a la Jessica Fletcher on Murder She Wrote
