That is why Briar Creek Library Director Lindsey Norris is thrilled to be attending the Annual Archivists Convention in Chicago, especially since her husband Mike “Sully” Sullivan joins her when not visiting his old Navy buddies.
It’s wedding season in England, that time of year for romance, bridezillas, over-the-top hen parties, and of course, brilliantly designed hats and fascinators. In Briar Creek, it’s almost Halloween. As the library staff gets ready for the spooky holiday, librarian Lindsey Norris learns William Dorchester is in town to settle his mother, Marion, into an assisted living home. He plans to sell the house and its contents and wants to donate all the books to the library to use however they want. Marion objects, of course, but suffering a form of dementia, is overruled.
Until shots are fired at Fairy Tales Cupcake Bakery co-owner Melanie Cooper DeLaura, Mel thought her biggest headache would be refrosting hundreds of cupcakes to match the ever-changing mind of her bridezilla client. Honestly, after thirteen previous murder investigations, it’s a miracle that it’s taken this long for Mel to appear on someone’s hit list, be it from an unhappy client, envious rival baker, or the dozens of killers she and her assistant district attorney husband Joe have helped to put behind bars.

So that’s why she’s completely thrown by the discovery that she sent out the wrong invitation list for her own wedding, more than tripling the number of her guests who will be expecting to party in just one week. Her placid fiancé Mike “Sully” Sullivan does his best to reassure Lindsey that his family’s historical home on Bell Island will easily accommodate the new size of their formerly intimate wedding, especially in comparison to the much more lavish and over-the-top Briggses’ Annual Christmas Bash.
