IQ, Intelligence Quotient, is an important tool for measuring cognitive ability. EQ, Emotion Quotient, is a new device for measuring emotional health and capacity. However, to adequately measure the value of a noodle, one needs NQ and, more specifically, Noodle Q near the southeast corner of Fresno Street and Ashlan.

It is an open, inviting, and friendly environment for shopping and learning. Yes! Learning! The staff is there to stock shelves, check out customers, and to educate. It is not that everyone knows about everything, but everyone knows how to find the person who knows about the thing you want to know.

If humanity originated in Africa, then so did the consumption of human food.
Thirty-three nations, hundreds of languages and cultures, and thousands of recipes later, Africa is not one entity, but many. Yet, there is only one place to get authentic African food in Fresno and there, you can sample the cuisines of two countries.

There is a Tree of Life growing in Downtown Fresno that is part of a movement to gather, feed, entertain and engage community in the heart of a great city. This Tree of Life is the Tree of Life Café and this is Part I of the story. My mouth is watering and I can hardly wait for the grand opening in March. That will be Part II.

There are 250 fast days in the Ethiopian Orthodox year. 180 of them are obligatory for all. During the evening meal, all food is free of animal products, and thus, vegan. If that sounds like a drudgery or burden, you have never visited Lucy’s Lair in the Woodward park area.

Manchester Farmer’s Market is a neighborhood venture, created by neighbors who care about their community and are making a difference every week. Manny and Mary Yanez are those two people and, out of their vision, Manny’s need to do something with his time, and Manchester Mall’s welcome to morning walkers, a great venture was launched.

I walked into Raizana Teas and was engulfed in the subtle tranquility of a sensory invitation to partake of real tea in a real tea house, made by someone who really knows tea. Sol Orazco greeted me immediately and soon I was enjoying the best cup of tea I had ever experienced. And I was relaxing.

I honestly did not intend to love P*DE*Q (pão de queijo). I did not really intend or expect to like it. I don’t know why. I just didn’t. Maybe I did not want to fall for a bakery. Maybe I had too many bad memories of something I don’t remember. Maybe I have no idea what I am talking about.

How could I have missed Rubio’s for the last four years? Perhaps it was because I have been eating a vegetarian diet all that time. There have been plenty of options for bean tacos in Fresno and I have stalked them out.
