Frank Sinatra

by Lorie Lewis Ham

Recently I had the chance to watch a very interesting and fun web series called I Gotta Be Me, which involves impersonators of the Rat Pack (if you don’t know who that is, it includes Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr.), whom I love! This is an awesome web series I highly recommend watching when it is available to the public. It is also filled with a very diverse cast. Recently I interviewed director and producer of I Gotta Be Me, Steven Bloomer.

Quite possibly the first hippie in California, eden ahbez, better known as Nature Boy, was born on April 15, 1908, in Brooklyn, New York, to a Jewish family, but according to ahbez, he was adopted by a family from Kansas when he was nine years old. He moved to Los Angeles in the early 1940s, where he hung out at the raw-food restaurant and health-food store Eutropheon, on Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

And it came to pass in 2012 that Reedley’s River City Theatre did bring forth Legends, a remembrance of famous performers, and it was good.
And in the year of 2013, it came to pass that it did bring forth Legends Too!, and it was good…too.

As KRL celebrate’s their third anniversary, we thought it appropriate to touch base with what’s happening at Reedley’s River City Theatre Company since our very first issue had a story about them and we have continued to cover their shows the past three years. So we sat down to chat with Mark Norwood, RCTC’s artistic director, about two shows they have coming up this summer-Legends Too! which opens May 31, and Les Miserables opening July 12.

This weekend something brand new hits the stage at the Reedley Opera House, but with some very familiar songs and “characters”. Legends is a musical and comedy review that pays tribute to celebrities such as The Rat Pack, Marilyn Monroe, Buddy Holly, Patsy Cline, Sonny & Cher, Judy Garland, Kate Smith and more.

Nostalgia galore may be the best way to describe the Visalia Player’s production of My Way, a tribute to the music of Frank Sinatra. According to directors Gary Benjamin and Sylvia Garoian, My Way has been under consideration for a number of years.
