It has been a buzz-word since mid-2015 and hasn’t stopped spreading through the world like wildfire. It’s “cold-brew coffee,” an inky black concoction that is infinitely more flavorful than ordinary iced coffee. In case you were wondering, iced and cold-brew coffee are not the same, because cold-brew coffee undergoes a different brewing process to make it taste exquisite.

The Bean Hive has the perfect location on the boardwalk serving the best treats and hot coffee with a marvelous view of Lake Honey Springs, and seeing a smile on her customers’ faces is why Roxy Bloom didn’t miss being a lawyer. Her coffeehouse with all of its locally sourced ingredients and high quality coffees and teas make this the ideal place for locals and tourists alike.

It seems secrets have been kept. Everyone at Death by Coffee, Krissy Hancock’s coffee shop/bookstore (named after a mystery book by Krissy’s dad, James Hancock), knew he was coming for a book signing. Everyone but his own daughter that is. No one is more surprised than his biggest fan, Rita Jablonski. For a moment, it looked like she’d faint from sheer joy at being near her writing hero.

Many of us have heard about cat cafés, which originated in Taiwan and became a beloved craze in Japan, where tourists and residents alike can now choose from the over 150 kitty cafés that are open in the country. Guests can relax and enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee, basking in the company of animal friends as the cats roam about, a welcome break from the grind of everyday life.

She attends barista school and cooking classes, rents one of Aunt Maxi’s buildings on the boardwalk, and opens ‘The Bean Hive,’ the area’s first coffeehouse.

I always look forward to a new Coffeehouse Mystery by Cleo Coyle–not only does it promise great characters and a well plotted mystery, but I feel like I’m walking into my favorite coffeehouse, enjoying the heavenly smell of coffee brewing, and spending some time with old friends. Dead Cold Brew is the latest book in this series and was as worth the wait as a great cappuccino.

Uncommon Grounds coffee shop owner Maggy Thorsen thought that she was being responsible by reporting to the authorities the nearly fifty-thousand dollars in cash hidden in a trunk left for her by her late brother. It was why she was meeting with financial planner Lynne Swope, sister of the town librarian and a new resident of Brookhills, Wisconsin. The news that Lynne’s husband has just joined Maggy’s ex-husband’s dental practice is a complication, but not a conflict of interest.

Recently a new shop opened in Downtown Reedley called Sweet Destination. I went in to check it out and was delighted by what I saw! This place is so charming and filled with so many unique items. The owner, Shelly Henderson, shared with me that the theme of “destination” is showcased throughout the store as she showed me their tables with street sign tabletops (Shelly’s co-owner and husband Mike built the tables), an old luggage cart, their counter is made out of a 100 year old door, and even their business cards are shaped like luggage tags!

She’s invited to a party with Will, a former love interest who had faded from the scene just when she thought things were going well. The invitation is his way of making up. Little did she know, it was the annual Yarborough party, always spookily overdone.
