Farce is a kind of comedy that often includes slapstick/physical action, leering innuendo, mistaken identities, and outrageous situations. One way to judge a farce is by how many doors are on the stage, and how often they slam open or shut. Count the doors on the set of The Good Company Players’ 2nd Space Theatre production of Ken Ludwig’s 1995 comedy Moon Over Buffalo—It’s a five-banger!
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Antonio Salieri. Two musicians of the 1700s. Mozart was a creative genius, an immortal composer whose works are treasured, centuries after his death. The main reasons Salieri is known today are his claims that he killed Mozart, and Peter Shaffer’s 1979 play Amadeus, which is now playing at the Good Company Players’ 2nd Space Theatre through February 18.
A Christmas Carol is one of my all-time favorite stories, and it sounds like Good Company Players has put a brand new twist on it! You’d better fill its two-person cast with solid, dependable performers...and that’s what the Good Company Players did with Amelia Ryan and Noel Adams in Kalamazoo, playing at the 2nd Space Theatre through April 16.
For decades, writers have made up tales of William Shakespeare having affairs that inspired his great plays. In 1998, Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard’s script became the film Shakespeare in Love starred Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes, with Geoffrey Rush and Judy Dench. In 2014, Lee Hall adapted the film script for the stage. Now, you can see Shakespeare in Love performed live at the Good Company Players’ 2nd Space Theatre through February 19, and you can fall in love with it, too.
Christmas time is on its way, and so are the holiday plays, such as A Christmas Carol and all its variations, Papa’s Christmas Miracle, stories of the Christmas Truce of 1914, The Littlest Angel, and The Worst Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
Take a time machine to the time of King Henry VIII and Sir Thomas More. It is cleverly disguised as the Good Company Players’ 2nd Space Theatre production of Robert Bolt’s A Man for All Seasons. The time machine is only available through October 16.
