If one of your family members were forced to fight for his or her life, yet you had the opportunity to step in for them, would you? Honestly, I get the feeling that not many people would. Yeah, many people say, “Of course I would! It’s family!” but when it comes down to it, and they’re actually put into this situation, would they do it? In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, families are put to the test. It shows that sometimes, no matter how much you love someone, you don’t necessarily know how you will react.

Jason Starr presents what happens to a normal guy, Simon Burns, who gets lured into a “pack” by three other stay at home dads who are more than they seem to be. Simon’s life isn’t going that great. He gets fired, he is having marital problems, and is adjusting to becoming a stay at home dad. And after being drawn into a wild night, he blacks out and wakes up in the woods naked. After that night, Simon notices extreme changes. Simon is suddenly stronger, faster, acute senses, and overall more animalistic. The gist is he has become a werewolf and possibly killed somebody.

As the Reel Pride Film Festival in Fresno celebrates its twenty second year, the festival organizers have made an extra effort to bring in local youth to the festival. One of the things they have done toward that effort is to bring on board Clovis youth Justin Kamimoto as outreach coordinator. Reel Pride runs from September 14 through 18.

Seeing as my mom and I travel every summer, I wasn’t surprised last fall when my mom asked me where I would like to go for the upcoming summer vacation. I didn’t surprise her either when I suggested going to Russia, or more specifically my birthplace. My mom knew that at one point in time I would want to go back to my roots, so she had already done some research. Much to her disappointment though, she wasn’t able to find enough information about the town where I was born.

It’s August already, and that means that school is here. In addition to all of the college preparations for students and parents alike, let me offer some helpful tips that might make the transition a bit easier.

It is said by many comedians that comedy is hard. Like anything comedy takes time and is a process of elimination of what is not funny and picking what your audience might respond to. Local comedian Julian Aguilar is no exception; Aguilar constantly tests what is funny, re-writes jokes so that they can have more effect, and scrutinizes his line-up of jokes and skits so he can get the most laughs possible.

Many can certainly say that growing up has definitely taken a toll on the family shaped band, Eisley. Composed of siblings Chauntelle (guitar), Sherri (vocals/guitar), Stacy (vocals/keyboard), Weston (drums), and cousin Garron (bass), the DuPree family has come far away from not only playing in their home environment of Tyler, Texas to sharing a stage with major bands such as Coldplay and Say Anything, but have also come a long way with the music that they have sung over the past decade.

Cassie Palmer makes her long awaited return in Hunt the Moon after a two year hiatus, due to unforeseen circumstances affecting the author, Karen Chance. I never really knew why the book was delayed, but it matters not because it’s out now and it features the return of one of my favorite heroines.

Armen Majarian is the current owner of Dinuba Lanes bowling alley in Dinuba. He has been the owner since 2004 and in the years since he has provided the community with great bowling entertainment. As an employee myself of Dinuba Lanes, I have seen the immense amount of fun people have when they visit the bowling alley. To watch the families bowl and compete against one another is what keeps the bowling alley alive and well. It is a great and fun way to enjoy time with friends and family, especially on rainy days when other activities may be limited.

If you want to see a movie with murder, mystery, and an extremely smart Goth girl, than this movie is right for you. This movie is the first of the Swedish trilogy based on Stieg Larsson’s amazing books. Now the film is in Swedish so I hope you don’t mind subtitles. Another thing is that this movie is rated R and has a very violent rape scene, so watch with caution and this film is not recommended for young children.

Ever since I was little, I’ve always loved music. Loved everything about it, from rock-n-roll, to country to indie, heavy metal, and classical, though rock is my passion. I always love finding new bands and seeing what I like most about their music. When I was asked to write about the Visalia band Pawn, I wasn’t sure what to expect, would they be classic rock, hard rock, metal, or something totally different?

Last year TV fans got an amazing treat with the return of Angie Harmon in Rizzoli & Isles, a show about cop Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and her best friend Medical Examiner, Maura Isles( Sasha Alexander) solving cases in Boston. Sounds like a tired formula, but surprisingly Sasha Alexander and Angie Harmon have amazing chemistry that makes the show more about their friendship than the cases.
