So, Lorie, our esteemed editor and publisher, and I were discussing possible subjects for an article relating to Earth Day, April 22. I guess I am about as “green” as most people. I recycle paper, aluminum and plastic. We went solar two years ago. Last summer we replaced our front lawn with pavers, drought-tolerant native plants and bark. But I was drawing a complete blank as far as something to write about. Of course Lorie had an idea ? that’s why she is our editor and publisher ? write something about our local thrift stores. Brilliant!

The little beady-eyed creep irritated the hell out of me. If he hadn’t been one heck of a technician, I would have had him transferred to another department. Much as I liked to hear the figures on the monitors squeal, prolonged listening got old pretty quickly.

This week we are interviewing the owner of Rizzo Rat Rescue in Southern California, Lillian. In honor of World Rat Day on April 4 we actually have 3 rat related articles in this issue!

I am starting this review with a statement—this book is a masterpiece!
Like many people, I had no idea of the politics of French Colonial Vietnam as the Second World War was about to start. Margaret Mendel’s book gives a clearly written description of the events, cloaked in a riveting fictional account of the happenings in Saigon in 1939.

Alice Mongoose lives with her parents in a big house in India, where they happily eat eggs for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Alice goes to the market one day and sees an advertisement encouraging mongooses to go to Hawaii. Flushed with excitement, Alice and her parents pack her suitcases and steam-trunk (they didn’t have back-packs in those days!) and she sets sail for her new job.

Here at KRL we like to feature animal rescues around the world because animal rescue is so important. Easter seemed like a perfect time to feature a rabbit rescue so we took some time to chat with Luke Stultz, the current president of the Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society, about what they do.
