2012- Has the dubious honor of being Sanger Women’s Club’s 100th Anniversary, and the 100th Anniversary of Sanger Women’s Clubs Historical Clubhouse! The City of Sanger will be sharing the celebration, as the City’s 100th Anniversary was in 2011. Combining the three birthdays will make for a wonderful event in Sanger.

On Thursday January 5, four members of Sanger Woman’s Club and three of their friends cleaned Bethel Avenue from the railroad tracks to Kings Canyon in Sanger. SWC recently adopted this stretch of road in order to serve our community while raising its quality of life.

The morning air was cool and welcomed by the 1,184 athletes gathering for the 14th Annual Blossom Trail Run. The day started with the first wave of runners dashing through the streets of downtown Sanger where they passed a multitude of vendors erecting canopies and starting fires in their grills, preparing for the crowds that were already arriving.

On Friday February 17, 2011 Marc Johnson of Sanger Unified Schools was honored as the 2011 National Superintendent of the Year at the opening ceremony of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) National Conference on Education in Denver Colorado.

Joseph Fischer celebrated his 100th birthday Friday February 18th. More than forty family members and friends gathered in the sunny party room at Elderberry Apartments in Sanger where Joe lives. When I say Joe lives at Elderberry, I mean he brings life to it.

We had one of those vacations that you rarely hear about these days. The flight from San Francisco to Phoenix was tolerable, almost pleasant, even though I was chosen for an inside-out photo op by security.
We spent one night in Phoenix and then we hit the road north to Sedona and her beautiful “other worldly” red rock formations. Along the way we stopped at Montezuma’s Castle National Park where we were awestruck by the 1000 year-old ruins of the Sinaqua people.

Sanger Open-Mic Group meets at Sanger Library the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm. This eclectic group of diverse people share thoughts, feelings, prose, stories and history. Writers read their original work, Readers read any author or poet, Storytellers tell tall tales, and Historians share about places and time past.

Last Sunday I made my first “Trek to the Nation’s Christmas Tree”, something I had intended to do for several years. The bus ride from Sanger up to the Sierras and into the snow-covered world of Kings Canyon National Park was breathtaking.
