You’ve all heard them. They play during first period, both on the field and on the street. They rehearse every Thursday night from 7-9. They go to every football game and most recently put in an appearance at the Dinuba Raisin Day Parade and the Reedley Fiesta Parade.

Last week I watched an assembly at my school regarding something called “Rachel’s Challenge”, and it’s become something that is truly now a major part of my life. Rachel Scott was the first victim of the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School, which swept the nation in a blanket of sadness and remorse.

Picture Reedley 60 years ago; Independence Day is drawing closer and, for the first time, the city will be having a large fireworks display for the community. That first show was held at Washington Elementary, with about 5,000 people in attendance.

Next year, I will be a senior and it will be my last year in the Reedley High Dancing Marching Pirate Band. Although it will be my senior year, and I will finally be done with high school, I don’t want it to end.
