MYSTERY WRITER ELIZABETH LYNN CASEY LAUNCHES HER NEW BOOK, “REAP WHAT YOU SEW” AT MYSTERIES & MORE BOOKSTORE

Agatha award finalist, Laura Bradford, writing as Elizabeth Lynn Casey, will launch, discuss, and sign her new book, “Reap What You Sew”, at Mysteries & More Bookstore on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 2 until 4 PM. “Reap What You Sew” is the sixth novel in her highly successful “Southern Sewing Circle” mystery series. In this book, Sweet Briar is chosen for the setting of a new movie, and everyone is hoping to be cast as an extra – and lucky Tori Sinclair lands the gig. But fame has its price, as the town learns when the film’s leading actress is found murdered. When suspicion falls on a member of the sewing circle, Tori must catch the killer to keep the tight-knit group from coming apart at the seams. Mysteries & More will also be celebrating its fourth anniversary. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is invited to attend. Sat, March 3, noon, Bill Fitzhugh signs The Exterminators: An Assassin Bug Thriller (Poisoned Pen Press, hard $24.95, tp $14.95). Exterminator Bob Dillon is back! 6 years after escaping the assassins who targeted him (Pest Control, tp, 14.95 – back in print!), he and his partner Klaus have achieved a genetic breakthrough with their all-natural pesticide. The problem is they need financial backing and their choice is unfortunate. Blue Sky Investment Partners make certain demands for their money and, before they know it, Bob and Klaus face more killers, a Company agent with a crazy plan, and a priest with a duffle bag of weaponry. If you’ve never read Fitzhugh, wow, why not? Absolute lunatic fun.

Wed, Mar 7, noon, Patricia Briggs signs Fair Game (Ace hc, $26.95). Charles and Anna are sent to Boston, when the FBI requests the pack’s help on a local serial killer case. They quickly realize that not only the last two victims were werewolves – all of them were. Someone is targeting their kind. And now Anna and Charles have put themselves right in the killer’s sights… 3rd in the Alpha & Omega series, recommended by Fran and Amber.

Sat, Mar 17, noon, Keith McCafferty signs The Royal Wulff Murders (Viking hc, $26.95). Debut by an award-winning editor from Field & Stream: When a fly-fishing guide hooks a body on the Madison River, Montana Sheriff Martha Ettinger thinks that the key to the case is the Royal Wulff lure stuck in the poor guy’s lip. This leads her to a recent arrival in the area – fly fisher, painter and failed PI Sean Stanahan. He tied the lure. But Stanahan is preoccupied by his new client, Southern siren Velvet Lafayette who hires him to find her missing brother. Lost yet? Sounds like lots of goofy fun!

Tues, Mar 20, noon, Cara Black signs Murder at the Lanterne Rouge (Soho hc, $25.00). Aimeé’s partner René is in love and Aimeé wants to be happy for him but she just doesn’t trust Meizi. Her doubts may be prescient; Meizi leaves the table in the middle of dinner and never returns. The body of a young science prodigy is found is the alley nearby and her photo is found in his wallet. Government agents were keeping an eye on his man, so things quickly turn to merde. Amber highly recommends this Parisian series.

Tues, Mar 27, noon, Kevin O’Brien signs Terrified (Pinnacle pbo, $7.99). Years before, Megan Keeler fled her abusive husband in order to protect herself and their unborn child. She simply vanished without a trace on purpose. When the authorities searched for her they found the remains of another woman and her husband, Glenn, was convicted of murder. Megan has lived in Seattle with her son, Josh, who knows nothing about the past. In quick succession, Glenn gets out of prison, threatening letters and e-mails begin to arrive and Josh is kidnapped. Is Glenn behind it or does someone else know her secrets?

Fri, Mar 30, noon, Owen Laukkanen signs The Professionals (Putnam hc, $25.95). Debut thriller. Four friends are scuffling along, going nowhere fast as recent college grads in a bad economy. They joke about committing the perfect crime – a kidnapping. Eventually the joking becomes a serious plan and it all goes well until they grab the wrong guy. The result is that they’re being pursued by professionals from both sides of the law. By the way, the four friends were students at the University of Washington.

Sun, April 1, 1pm, Lisa Lutz signs Trail of the Spellmans (Simon & Schuster hc, $25.00). The Spellmans – not the most ‘normal’ of families at any time – are suffering through a period of greater lunacy than usual, both personally and professionally. Each of them is engaged in an investigation that seems to have no purpose. Odd all the way around. [Once again, Lisa will be here to celebrate Izzy’s birthday, so come have cake!]

Sat April 7, noon, William Seil signs Sherlock Holmes and the Titanic Tragedy (Titan, $9.95). First published in 1996, local author Bill Seil’s book is being reissued as part of Titan’s Sherlock Holmes series just in time for the 100th Anniversary of the Ship’s maiden and final voyage. Holmes and Watson are on board to protect a young British agent who carries blueprints for a new submarine developed by the Royal Navy. Plenty of trouble is afoot, for Col. James Moriarty sails with them. Also on the cruise is Jacques Futrell, creator of The Thinking Machine, a real-life mystery puzzle writer who did go down with the ship. There will be lots of hoop-la around this time (Cameron’s Titanic will be re-released in 3D that weekend) so come in and meet Bill and pick up a copy of this extraordinarily enjoyable adventure.

Tues, April 10, noon, Jacqueline Winspear signs Elegy for Eddie, A Maisie Dobbs (Harper hc, $25.99) It’s 1933, and Maisie is approached by a group of costermongers, men Maisie has known all her life, to investigate the death of one of their own, Eddie Petit, a gentle and kind man whose death the authorities are dismissing. As Maisie learns to cope with the changes in her own life, she travels the back alleys and mean streets of a London bracing itself for another war.

Thurs, April 12, noon, Phillip Margolin signs Capitol Murder (Harper hc, $25.99). The end of his trilogy of DC thrillers. PI Dana Cutler and attorney Brad Miller face danger from opposite sides: they become aware of a terrorist plot to attack a crowded football stadium and an old nemesis, convicted serial killer Clarence Little, has escaped from prison.

Tues, April 24, noon, Amanda Quick signs Crystal Gardens (Putnam hc, $25.95). After being attacked in London, Evangeline Ames now lives in the quiet country. She’s fascinated by a nearby private garden that seems to emit a paranormal energy. The garden’s owner, Lucas Sebastian, doesn’t mind her intrusion and one day saves her from another attack. He’s happy to help but insists that this be kept quiet. She knows he’s trying to hide the garden and is even more entranced. 1st of the ‘Ladies of the Lantern Street’ books.

Sat, April 28, noon, Isaac Adamson signs Complication (Soft Skull tpo, $15.95). Lee Holloway’s quiet, ordinary and, yes, boring life is about to get far more exciting, like it or not. His brother Paul has disappeared in Prague and Lee tries to find him. Along the way will be the enigmatic Vera, an Eastern European gangster known as Rumpelstilskin, Soviet-era Czech secret police, and a priceless watch said to hold the power of eternal life. Portland, OR, author.

Wed, May 9, noon, Brian Freeman signs Spilled Blood (SilverOak hc, $24.95). Two small towns in rural Minnesota have been in a running feud. Upstream is Barron – affluent, powerful and a secretive scientific coporate town – and downstream is St. Croix – blue-collar and chafing at the chemical waste that washes down to them. It all breaks into open warfare when the daughter of the company’s president is murdered and a girl from St. Croix is accused.

Wed, May 16, noon, William Dietrich signs The Emerald Storm (Harper hc, $25.99). Ethan Gage once again finds himself in the midst of turmoil and adventure involving a slave revolt and a threat to the English Crown in a story that speeds from the Alps to the Caribbean in a search for Spanish treasure rumored to be magical.

Thurs, May 17, noon, Marcia Clark signs Guilt by Degrees (Mulholland hc, $25.99). LA DA Rachel Knight begins to feel as if someone is out to ruin her. First, she’s assigned to a case that appears impossible: a homeless man has been murdered and there are no witnesses. That, plus the usual infighting at the courthouse, is making her edgy. Strangely, though, a small clue is unearthed but it complicates matters: this death is tied somehow to the shooting of a cop a year before. In paper, Guilt by Association (Mar., Mulholland, $14.99).

Sat, May 19, noon, Bernadette Pajer signs Fatal Induction (Poisoned Pen hc $24.95, tp $14.95). There’s a competition in Seattle in 1901 to see who can invent a system to deliver music from the Grand Theatre to the city’s residents. Professor Bradshaw is confident he can win. The assassination of McKinley puts a crimp on the festivities, as does the hunt for a missing man and child. Bradshaw begins to see that his new electronic gizmo may be the answer to the investigation. 2nd in this new series.

Tues, May 22, noon, Jon Talton signs Powers of Arrest (Poisoned Pen hc $24.95, tp $14.95). Cincinnati cop Will Borders barely survived his last case, now walks with a cane and has been moved to the information desk. When the murder of a media-star cop takes place, and is similar to a pair of murders on a nearby campus, Will becomes involved. Those victims were nursing students of his friend Cheryl. Sequel to The Pain Nurse (PPen, $14.95).

Thurs, May 24, noon, Greg Rucka signs Alpha (Mulholland hc, $24.99). From the age of 18, Jad Bell was trained to save hostages. As a Master Sergeant in the elite Delta Force, he’s been undercover as head of security at a large theme park. He’s going to be the right man in the right place when terrorists announce that they’ve hidden a dirty bomb on the grounds. What no one knows is that this is not the worst of it.

Sat, June 9, noon, Jeanne Matthews signs Bonereapers (Poisoned Pen hc $24.95, tp $14.95). On an undercover assignment to the world’s Doomsday Seed Vault in Norway, cultural anthropologist Dinah Pelerin is unaware that she’ll soon find herself in the midst of not only international politics but the marital disagreement of the presidential candidate and his Norwegian wife.

Tues, June 12, noon, Robert Dugoni signs The Conviction (Touchstone hc, $25.00). David Sloane’s son has slipped into a life of petty crime and danger after the murder of his mother. Sloane’s buddy, Det. Tom Molia invites the Sloane men to go with him and his son on a camping trip. The boys are caught breaking into a general store one night and the country judge throws the book at them. Sloane and Molia learn that this judge’s power is vast and they have to figure out how to rescue the teens.

Mon, June 25, noon, Alafair Burke signs Never Tell (Harper hc, $24.99). NYPD Det. Ellie Hatcher investigates the death of a teen who seemed to have it all. Why should she commit suicide? The investigation reveals unknown stresses and involvement in cyber bullying. While the family brings political pressure to treat the death as murder, Hatcher is satisfied in suicide. Then events change her view.

Fri, June 29, noon, Jess Walter signs Beautiful Ruins (Harper hc, $25.99). On an Italian coastline in 1962, a young innkeeper sees a vision of stunning beauty – a young, American starlet – and is heartbroken to learn she is dying. 50 years later, in Hollywood, an elderly Italian man appears on a studio backlot, searching for a woman he hasn’t seen since 1962. A story of mystery, romance and enduring love. (Doesn’t appear to involve crime but we’ll follow Jess anywhere he goes!)

Mon, July 16, noon, Jeffrey Siger signs Target: Tinos (Poisoned Pen hc, $24.95, tp $14.95). In his 4th case, Chief Insp. Kaldis works on the case of two incinerated bodies found chained together in an isolated olive grove on the small island of Tinos, revered as the Lourdes of Greece.
