This month we feature two outstanding cats who recently came from the CCSPCA - Fresno. They both are gorgeous cats who were surrendered from different owners who were unable to keep them. Feral Paws Rescue was asked by the shelter if we would take them in. Of course we did!
The cats at Feral Paws Rescue have all been rescued from high-kill shelters, as those of you who regularly follow our stories know. That includes Shrimp, who we feature this month, but he comes with a very interesting story about how he got here––and how he left.
Feral Paws Rescue has several free-roaming cats who are permanent residents of the Rescue. All cats at the Rescue have been saved from high-kill shelters, and the free-roaming ones have all been spayed or neutered. This month we will introduce you to three of them.
Bobby and Zubie, both rescued from high-kill shelters, are permanent residents at Feral Paws Rescue and both have endeared themselves to everyone here—especially Zubie, to our CEO, Paula. Both quickly became two of her personal cats, and one could say it was “love at first sight”. This story is about how both Bobby and Zubie became Rescue residents and favorites.
The mission of Feral Paws Rescue has always been to save senior and special needs cats, and our Rescue never goes back on our word. So, when we get a call from the Central California SPCA, we respond as quickly as possible. Three precious cats last month were no exception.
Many, I am sure, don’t understand my drive to walk into a high-kill shelter daily and work endless hours to save just one life of a cat that will die in three to five days! I never ask for a pat on the back for what I am doing. Just that you respect me for fighting for the life of cats that will not make it out of a high kill shelter! Unless you have personally worked with a rescue, you can never truly understand the horror we see every day.
This is the story of Tillie, a very special, senior Tortie cat who touched so many lives throughout her years. This is one of the hardest stories I have ever personally written about an adopted cat from our rescue, and I know writing this story will cause many tears to fall from my eyes.

One mission of Feral Paws Rescue after pulling cats from a high-kill shelter is to find the perfect home for the cats who are deemed adoptable. Some cats who come to the rescue are shy, fearful of their new surroundings, especially after losing the home they were accustomed to, and others are naturally friendly either to their human caretaker, other cats or both.
Feral Paws Rescue regularly receives calls from the CCSPCA (Fresno) for cats they deem unadoptable or cats who are not adopted within their allowed time to be on-site. Often the cats are scared to be at the shelter so they seem unadoptable. Or maybe they’re too old or have a disability, so they’re tagged as rescue-only. Many just need more time to adjust, but Feral Paws Rescue is always there for them no matter what the reason.
