The owner of clothing boutique It’s Vintage Y’all in Sugar Creek, Georgia, Cookie Chanel considered herself a connoisseur of vintage attire. She’s not the only one, in addition to writing a blog and advising television and movies, she has been asked by author Juliana McDaniel for a consultation on a book she’s writing. When their meeting takes place, it’s after Juliana’s car has crashed, and she is unexpectedly in a very deceased and ghostly form.

Cookie is less surprised than Juliana by the turn of events, having acquired Charlotte Meadows as a constant companion six months ago despite the socialite’s own previous murder and incorporeal state. When Cookie’s boyfriend, Detective Dylan Valentine, reveals that Juliana had been shot before the crash, both she and Charlotte insist that they “assist” the police with their efforts to find the culprit.book

Although Cookie initially would prefer to concentrate on building her inventory of delicate vintage clothing, a consultation with her eerily psychic cat Wind Song quickly changes her mind.

By following a lead from Cookie’s pseudo-psychic best friend Heather, they are able to also hunt for the origins of the mysterious Persian kitty, who has proven to be uncannily accurate at predictions with Tarot cards and a Ouija board. Wind Song’s counsel points in the same direction of those questioning after hats Juliana had been storing in her car’s trunks, not to mention the sudden break-ins at Vintage Y’all. With Charlotte aggressively asserting her opinions and Juliana passively insisting that no one she knew would have murdered her, Cookie and her gangs pursue their own investigation while always dressed in ultimate vintage couture.

In this fourth book of the Haunted Vintage Mystery series Charlotte continues to rival any teenager with her mean girl snark, narcissism, and complete self-involvement. It’s no wonder that Cookie rarely has time alone for a date with the delectable Detective Dylan, who is still unaware of the ghostly conversations constantly ensuing in the background. The descriptive details of Cookie’s ever-revolving wardrobe will delight any fashion maven, as will the often contrary style advice from both Cookie and Charlotte. Eccentric Southern characters ensure for unique and often comical adventures, which are often softened by Cookie’s fond memories of the grandmother who first inspired her love of vintage. Fans of this fun and light-hearted cozy series will be more than satisfied with its very Southern setting and fashion-linked solution.
