For readers who enjoy a little back story, a quick read, and new recipes for the holidays, this book fits the bill. As the story unfolds, Hannah is at a leisurely dinner with Ross. The tale she tells is about an old schoolmate returned to town, rumors about her relationship with a certain someone, a disappointed Mrs. Claus, a husband not where he’s supposed to be, and homemade caramels as a clue.
Herb has been Santa before, but this year it was Lisa’s turn to be Mrs. Claus, who gets to share a nice hug with the big guy after the gifts are handed out. Things don’t turn out that way once Phyllis returns. Her Mrs. Claus outfit is more appropriate for a lap dancer than for someone handing out (and bending over to do it) gifts to little kids. Nothing left for the imagination. When she “misunderstands” the stage direction to give Santa a “stage kiss” and instead plants a big kiss on Herb as Lisa watches, things really get uncomfortable.
It’s not but a couple of hours later that Phyllis’ body is found in a ditch alongside the restaurant where Hannah and Lisa are meeting for dinner. Did Lisa go home to feed the dogs or sneak over early to do Phyllis in and then sit down for a nice meal?
Of course, knowing Phyllis’ personality, there are more suspects that just Lisa. Michelle is home for the holidays to lend a hand where necessary, Mike welcomes Hannah’s help, and Norman makes an appearance to help with the Christmas bazaar. There’s a nice twist for the ending.
Find twelve new recipes for treats like chocolate flan with caramel whipped cream, red velvet whippersnapper cookies, grilled ham and double cheese sandwiches (Mike’s favorite), gingerbread pancakes, angel jellies, chocolate caramels, chocolate mint cookies, raspberry muffins, butterscotch crunch candy, cashew candy roll, and cherry shortbread bar cookies.
Let the baking begin!

I was a bit disappointed in how Fluke pulled a new suitor out of thin air for Hannah, but now that she’s married to Ross I’m curious to see if there are any changes in the series.

As I recall, Ross was in the first books, got famous and moved away. Hannah then bounced back and forth between Norman and Mike for eons, no passion with either one so no real choice between the two of them. Mike wasn’t so trustworthy and Norman was too bland. I foretell a baby in her future to add some interest.
