I Sense Danger!
First published in 2017, Kathi Daley’s Finding Justice introduced a clever paranormal twist to her storyline set in Rescue, Alaska. Harmony Carson works in her brother-in-law’s bar along with volunteering at the local animal shelter and taking care of her own menagerie, but it is as a member of the search-and-rescue team that her unique gift is the most useful. Although at times she thinks it more of a curse. Harmony can sense the emotions of people in grave danger. First experienced when her sister went missing, she felt her pain, fear, and tragically the last few minutes of her sister’s life. Her visions often lead to rescues, and bring justice to one whose untimely death peaked her interest. In Finding Answers (2018), her visions sense a disturbing darkness, danger and leads her to a recently murdered community leader, but the answers she seek could put more at risk. And now…it is courage that will be needed to get justice and answers she thought she’d never find.

Finding Courage earns 5/5 Explosive Mysteries…Clever, Engaging!!

mystery book coverA phone call from a frantic father comes into the rescue team. Fairly routine situation has two fourteen-year-old boys, one his son, missing. The team heads off on the search, but Harmony’s ability to connect with those scared or suffering seems not to be effective. Is this a hoax, or are they purposely blocking her efforts? Are they unconscious, or are they dead? Stopping to force the connection, something painful pierces her consciousness. She grabs her chest feeling such intense anguish. “Stop!” An explosion, a team member’s death, and a memory flashed in her thoughts. Normally Harmony connects with victims, people needing to be found and rescued, but this was different…personal, very personal.

Wow! An engaging hit! Kathi Daley has penned a very engrossing third book in her Rescue Alaska series. She hooks readers right away with some disturbing emotions from the killer, and from there the search for the identity puts everyone on edge and a few in danger. There are several possible suspects, but the final reveal was a shock that also provides some closure for Harmony and Jake, her brother-in-law. Kathi’s writing style includes a descriptive illustration of the Alaskan community, the mountains and the wildlife, and the character appearances along with a first-person narrative to follow Harmony’s inner thoughts, fears, and joys. The entertaining dialogue helps to understand personality, relationships, and tone. A few references to past storylines, background and character connections are made, but no spoilers. Newbies can join in here, and then go back to enjoy the beginning. I really enjoy the realism to the paranormal twist. It doesn’t overwhelm the story. Harmony’s mental and emotional connections also seem to be strengthening and expanding. Top notch! Great characters! Clever thriller!
