The Reedley College Tigers got their first win of the season, and broke an eleven game losing streak Saturday night, as they defeated the Monterey Peninsula Lobos 21-14 at Reedley High School Stadium.

It was a highly entertaining game, featuring lots of passing, and a few trick plays, but in the end, the Tigers had just enough offense, and just enough defense to put the game away. Tiger Quarterback Sean Stell was 25-38 for 290 yards and two touchdowns – one to wide out Will Hanford and the other to wide out Chris Zakar (Hoover High School). The Tigers’ one two punch at running back, Ernest Carter and Donte Capers were also effective, rushing for 126 years on 23 carries.

But it was the defense that really carried the day for Reedley. They shut out Monterey in the first half, and only gave up one touchdown, a fourth quarter touchdown pass from Cole Houston to Huitton Buley. The Lobos other touchdown was scored on the most entertaining play of the night – a fake punt that turned into a 49-yard touchdown pass. Well, it was entertaining to us, but probably not to Tiger head coach Randy Whited.

Coach Whited and his team can bask in the afterglow of their win for an extra week. The Tigers have a bye this week, and return to action on October twelfth on the road against Diablo Valley.
