Harper Blaine has died several times and is a Greywalker, able to identify auras and travel the realm between normality and paranormality. Quinton, her husband in all but the legal sense, has been gone for a year, scouring Europe for his father, who has plans to make the world better by destroying it, quietly causing political, economic, and social unrest in Ukraine and other countries. In Revenant, Kat Richardson’s ninth and final Greywalker novel, Quinton contacts her to come to Portugal and help him, she gets help from Carlos, her favorite Portuguese vampire/necromancer, who helps her cross the Atlantic…like the vampires do (Think about the easiest way to travel the ocean in an airplane without people bothering you for a passport).book

In Portugal, Quinton’s young niece is missing, thanks to her grandfather, and she must be rescued from mages who use human bones to create spells and raise havoc. It’s a mad race to keep the girl from being butchered, battle bone mages out to destroy Carlos over a centuries-old grudge, escape when ghosts and skeletons are used as silent alarms, and stop the end of the world as we know it.

You’ll learn a lot about Portugal and its history in this book, traveling around Lisbon and other cities, towns, and villages. There are many layers to see, as Harper sees the ghosts of buildings of the past, as well as people, which can create phantom realities in areas that were torn down and rebuilt along different lines.

I admit to having a problem with books using profanity, but Revenant was very nice on that count…until they encountered a group of young Americans talking like young Americans. Carlos gets to explain more of his background, and he has some family complications that involve several generations, living and dead. Richardson (Seawitch, Possession) knows how to twist things with a vengeance, and vengeance is a major motivation.

Major story arcs come to an end, questions are resolved, things blow up, and the world does what it’s supposed to do…maybe. There are eight earlier books to investigate, so: have fun. There are lots of worlds out there to enjoy.

Publisher’s Note: I LOVE this series! If you enjoy the mix of mystery and fantasy you can’t miss this series!
