Believe me, once you start reading Ruin Falls, you won’t want to put it down. Liz Daniels is going on a much needed vacation with her husband, Paul and their two children, Ally and Reid. Despite the fact that Paul is immediately revealed to be a control freak, Liz respects and loves him.

The trip starts out normally enough with their first overnight stop being an ordinary motel. What happens next is far from ordinary, when the Daniel children disappear. It seems someone has entered their room and kidnapped them. The police are called and suspicion immediately turned on the parents. book

In order not to spoil the drama and suspense, all I can say is that nothing is as it appears. Liz is left on her own to follow the trail of her missing children which reveals secrets that have been harbored for years. Though she does receive help from a police detective, a friend from the past, she mainly has to rely on herself to figure out where her children are. She follows some clues she finds on her husband’s computer, bits and pieces of information reluctantly given her by Paul’s parents and a few answers from his colleagues.

In the end though, Liz has to rely on her own strength, intelligence and ingenuity to rescue her children in a most dramatic and surprising climax. With a masterful hand, Milchman has crafted a spell-binding tale filled with unusual characters with both good and bad traits, along with one most horrible villain, and many suspenseful surprises during the journey. I doubt I need to say that I loved Ruin Falls.
