Feral Paws Rescue Group in Fresno will be sharing some of their animal rescue adventures with us now every month. Check out KRL’s article about Feral Paws to learn more about them. Lupe Gore is a FPRG volunteer.

Last month, Feral Paws Rescue received a call from the CCSPCA Shelter to rescue several kittens, mostly Torties, which they did. The kittens were brought to their main rescue location. At the same time, there was a dilute Tortie female who had been at the shelter along with her kittens. The kittens had already been taken from her by the shelter staff, and the Rescue was not informed what happened to them; we can only pray they went out to a foster home rather than being killed at the shelter.

Rosa

Feral Paws Rescue knew they also needed to save the life of this grieving mother whose babies had been taken from her. She was a small cat herself, maybe a year old (the shelter didn’t determine her age). So Feral Paws Rescue saved her, brought her to their main rescue and named her Rosa. Feeling so sorry for her, she was given a special kennel of her own, some special food and a pink collar with a silk rose on it, donated by a volunteer.
Rosa

Since her arrival at Feral Paws Rescue, Rosa has shown that she is happiest when being held and loved. One time when she was out of her kennel and being held, she noticed there were kittens in a nearby kennel and wanted to get to them.

Now, of the other kittens saved from the shelter, one repeatedly tried to get out of the kitten kennel so, again feeling sorry for Rosa, it was decided that this Tortie kitten would be put in the same space as Rosa. Immediately her mood changed to happiness and she became a loving surrogate mother to this little one who is now around three months old. Of course, when the kittens are fully vetted and neutered, they will be available for adoption. As for Rosa, the initial plans were for her to be adopted out also, but knowing her motherly instinct, she may just remain at the Rescue for a while to take care of more kittens who will come in the future!

  1. OoooooH we can hope the kittens were OK but sadly maybe not.

Good luck Rosa, may your future be a happy one and may your sadness soon be a thing of the distant past.

  6. Aww hope Rosa finds her forever home. Maybe an adopter will come in and want 2-3 cats including Rosa so then everyone wins! Such a sweetie pie.
