Hell’s Bell is the second book in the Lizzie Grace series by Keri Arthur. The first book, Blood Kissed, introduced us to witch and psychic Elizabeth Grace and her witch familiar Belle. They open a tea shop and psychic consulting business on a Faelen werewolf reservation in Australia in hopes of finally settling down after being on the run from Lizzie’s powerful magical family who blame her for her sister’s death.

Also in the first book Lizzie meets a werewolf Ranger named Aiden O’Connor who at first can’t get past his hatred for witches, but in needing her help, he begins to trust her and an attraction grows. She also encounters a well of wild magic that is unprotected and unrestrained, and draws to it those who practice dark magic. Lizzie seems to develop an odd connection with the well.

fantasy book coverIn Hell’s Bell a church bell tolls three times in the middle of the night, bringing with it evil and death. A new evil has come to town that eats the souls of the living and animates the flesh of the dead. As Lizzie and Aiden investigate the deaths that keep piling up, they believe that this soul eater is on a path of revenge-but who is controlling it leads through many twists and turns. Clues lead them to the doorstep of the local vampire, who actually hires Lizzie to find out who is behind the deaths. To make Lizzie’s life even more complicated, they are being threatened with eviction, and a witch who comes to help catch the soul eater and may end up finding out Lizzie and Belle’s secrets.

On the lighter side of the story, everyone seems to be betting on when Lizzie and Aiden actually get to have their first date–which keeps being interrupted by death–including an attempt to murder Lizzie.

My favorite combination in a book is that of mystery and fantasy! This book has all of that in spades, along with interesting characters and an interesting setting. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep mystery fans guessing, plenty of sexual tension for those who enjoy a little romance, and for the fantasy side there is the perfect mix of magic, werewolves, and vampires! Who could ask for more. I highly recommend this series, and really anything written by Keri Arthur! She has never disappointed me yet!
