With E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) coming next month, the anticipation for upcoming video games is high. Many gaming developers will be presenting their new games or sequels to current game series on June 13-15, 2017.
The week of May 15 to May 21 was E3 judges week where developers present games to people in the media and are judged. One exciting highly anticipated game that was presented on May 18 was Destiny 2, the sequel to the online multiplayer first person shooter Destiny. Bungie, the developers of the Destiny game, promises that the sequel will have a more detailed story and a multitude of complicated but exciting weapons options. Destiny 2 is set to release on September 8, 2017.
Prey, which released May 5, has been receiving rave reviews over the last couple weeks. Critics praise the combat style, art design, and thought provoking story which sends you on a journey with many twists and turns. Prey is a sci-fi adventure game in which you play as a scientist on an attacked interstellar research facility and must fight for your life against various alien life.
Injustice 2, the sequel to Injustice: Gods Among Us, was released by NetherRealm Studios on May 16. Injustice 2 is a fighter game that lets players fight as their favorite DC Comics characters. The developers describe this game as unique as “gamers can take control of how their characters look, fight, and develop across a variety of game modes.”
Rakuen, created by video game music composer Laura Shigihara, was released on May 10. Rakuen is a game available on PC, Mac, and Linux about a little boy who lives in a hospital. The little boy’s mother reads to him every night from his favorite book about a child living in a fantasy world called Morizora’s Forest. One night the boy asks his mom to take him to the world in his book, and together the mother and son explore this world. The game also deals with the reality of illness and grief as the little boy gets to know the other patients in the hospital. This is Laura Shigihara’s first game and so far has been praised by many.
