Everything is coming up ‘roses’ for Sally Muccio (Mooch-EE-o) and her bakery, Sally’s Samples. A recent fire caused Sally to relocate, but regulars are back, business is booming, and the fortune cookies continue to be…cryptic. The very long awaited wedding between Sally and Mike is only a week away, and Sally’s mother didn’t take “we only want a small family gathering” for an answer, so Sally is very stressed and resigned to deal with all the per-wedding arrangements, including a last minute wedding cake tasting.

However while enjoying some mouth-watering wedding cake samples, Bridezilla Alexandra Walston enters demanding service. “Do you know who I am?!” Trying to help appease her ‘zilla’ demands Sally offers her a taste of her slice of raspberry torte…CRASH! Glass shatters, spraying everywhere, and Alexandra falls dead…a bullet expertly placed between her eyes! The investigation points to several suspects who would have wanted Alexandra dead, however, later, a shower gift note offers a different take on the murder, “Bang, bang. Next time I won’t miss.”

The fear is real now ? Sally may actually be the intended target for a killer! Mike decides, since the police are tight on resources, a private bodyguard might be needed and cancelling the grandiose wedding plans has to be considered for everyone’s safety. With all the ensuing family drama and additional cryptic messages, Sally decides she can’t stay ‘out of sight.’ She starts poking around and asking questions, and when another failed attempt on her life puts someone she loves in danger, she decides to turn the tables on the killer.

Catherine Bruns has done it again…baked up another delicious, suspense-filled mystery! The fourth book in her Cookies & Chance series just maybe the best one yet. Fans will be thrilled that the wedding is set, the bakery is in full swing, and another mystery puts them on the edge of their comfy chair….twists, turns, and more than a few possible solutions. However, newbies are not overlooked because enough background is provided to keep them seriously engaged in trying to determine who has motive and opportunity.

The Muccio family continues to be explored with dad’s quirky “Father Death” blog as comic relief, but family secrets being revealed and a mother/daughter dynamic causes serious angst. But with all that Catherine shows that the family bond, including those coming into the family, is strong easily leading to an interesting debate about “loss” and “moving on.”

Catherine Bruns doesn’t forget to treat us cozy-holics by enriching our experience with some delightful, easy-to-follow recipes for Maamoul Cookies (traditional Middle Eastern Cookies), Grandma Rosa’s Butterscotch Parfait and Zucchini Bread, and Josie’s Cookies ’n Crème Cake created as Sally’s wedding cake. Delicious! Dramatic!
