Bea Cartright owns Bea and Bees, on South Bass Island. It’s a nice, quiet retreat, at least when murder and mayhem aren’t on the schedule. There are other B&Bs on the island, of course, but when The Twins open Tara, complete with fake Spanish moss hanging from the trees, the over the top décor and atmosphere draw in visitors from all over. The Twins are a media sensation. Kidnapped as teenagers and the children of a movie star, gorgeous to boot, they can outdo the Kardashians in the publicity department.

It’s bad enough that bookings for the B&B are down. When Bea finds out someone started a rumor that her place has bedbugs, look out. To distract herself, she and the other Literary Ladies are discussing “Gone with the Wind.” Scarlett’s iron will is something Bea will need to weather this storm. book

The underlying reason for the rumor becomes clear when The Twins make an offer on Bea’s business. They seemed to think that once her bookings were down, she’d be forced to sell at a reduced price. They were wrong, not knowing who Bea really is.

Vivien, the local realtor, has a past with Chandra, one of the Ladies. Chandra was very happily married to Bill when Vivien decided she wanted Bill and got him. It’s been twenty years, but the wound is still fresh in Chandra’s mind. When Vivien’s body turns up, it’s the anniversary of Bill’s death too, making Chandra a viable suspect—even when Chandra’s most recent husband, Hank, is the police chief.

Chandra is usually outspoken to say the least. After Vivien’s death, Chandra’s a recluse, refusing to see her friends or to talk about what happened. Bea is determined to help her friend and for once, Hank is willing to let her.

This is number five in the League of Literary Ladies series. The women, who started out as adversaries, have formed an enviable friendship. Bea’s romance with Levi is something she both longs for and fights against. This time, she might have found a way to bypass the secrets that have kept them apart. Where it goes from here should be as interesting as the mystery.

Logan also writes the Button Box mysteries (four), the Chili Cook-off series (three), and an Ethnic Eats book (two).
