Hannah’s only been married for a short time. In fact, it’s time for the romantic honeymoon to come to an end. While it’s nice to be with her new hubby all the time, sometimes it does feel a bit overwhelming to someone used to living alone.

Just as they’re ready to fly home, an urgent message comes from Hannah’s mom, Delores. Her downstairs neighbor, the mayor’s sister Tori, has been killed and Delores found the body. At least she had the good sense to call Mike, the detective, and tell him she was going to check on her neighbor after hearing an argument and what sounded like gunfire. Mike was able to be on the scene almost as fast as Delores.

Of course, Delores wants Hannah to investigate. It’s hard to jump right back into work, an investigation, and married life all at once, but Hannah has plenty of help. Michelle is home for the Thanksgiving holidays and gets to stay longer when she takes Tori’s place as director of the annual play. That’s a bonus for Hannah and hubby as Michelle tends to get up early and cook breakfast and experiment with new recipes. book

As for Tori, it seems she was a good actress and director although stingy with compliments. On the other hand, no one really seemed to like her. She met with several people before her death and each one could have been the killer except for the timing. Hannah and Mike are both stumped.

Meanwhile, cookie sales are brisk, there are new recipes to try and lots of company stopping by Hannah’s condo. Delores and Hannah’s sisters came up with a wedding gift Hannah never expected.

This is the twenty-first book in the Hannah Swenson series. I did suspect the killer but not until near the end. I also had a theory about a twist at the end and was completely wrong. There is a twist but not one that I saw coming. It will be hard to wait for the next installment of Hannah’s newly married life.

Recipes are included, of course: banana cream pie, oven French toast, orange fudge cookies, whippersnappers, tropical angels, brownie candy, chicken stroganoff and noodles, cheesy beer muffins, butterscotch crunch cookies, cheese pops, pretzel patties, cheese and sausage breakfast bake, citrus sugar cookies, turkey stack sandwiches, corn chowder with some heat, salted caramel bar cookies, orange marmalade bar cookies, cheese pepperoni bites, peach muffins, peanut butter cheesecake with chocolate sauce, cherry cookies with Cheerios and pumpkin scones with sugar cinnamon glaze. Now aren’t you hungry?
