Details at the end of this post on how to enter to win either a print or kindle copy of Winter’s Tail, and a link to purchase it from Amazon.

The worst feeling in the world is being helpless when a friend is in trouble. Caitlyn Hart sees the car her best friend, Tara, is in veer off the road to avoid an oncoming car and plunge down a ravine. EMTs arrive to rescue her from the car, but she’s lost a lot of blood, and Tanner, the driver of the car? Dead at the scene. Doctors say Tara needs a blood transfusion, but her rare blood type makes that a difficult task. Stepping outside of the hospital to call Cody, her boyfriend, a white fluffy cat saunters up and curls around her legs. Is this another one of Tansy’s magical cats come to help? Caitlyn, relieved that Tara is improving, takes the cat home wondering what insights the cat will provide. “His name is Moirai,” says Tansy. “He holds the key to the answers you seek.”

bookCaitlyn and her friends have done well before uncovering motive and the killer, but when your friend could have been a victim, it puts the group on high alert and full investigation mode. However, their usual techniques are turned covert when Finn, Caitlyn’s soon-to-be brother-in-law and Madrona Island deputy, is concerned about the sheriff bringing in another deputy to head up the investigation. He warns the team to keep their probes well under the radar. Steered to Tanner’s home by the ‘meowings’ of Caitlyn’s new cat, she discovers a list—a list of five names—and a tackle box. Their undercover investigations lead them to discover Tanner’s recent story turns out to be riddled with inaccuracies, other accidents occur with seemingly the same MO, and a secret AA meeting is discovered in an abandoned storefront. A big storm on the horizon could hinder their abilities to uncover the truth and a killer could go free.

This is the eleventh book in the Whales and Tails Mystery series, and it sure starts off with a “crash, boom, bang!” We are again taken on a very entertaining journey beginning to end, and Kathi Daley’s signature clever mystery weaves in and out of suspects and scenarios leaving you on the edge of your comfy chair. This installment revisits some secrets first disclosed in Grimm’s Furry Tail (2015), A Tale of Two Tabbies (2016), and The Cat of Christmas Present (2016). But, newbies fear not, there is enough information to bring you up to speed and enjoyment just like long-time fans. We are once again treated to the methodical investigation, interactions between family and friends, continued romance between Cait and Cody, and the appearance of another cat. The so-dubbed ‘magical’ cat is an odd occurrence, yes, but strangely, it doesn’t seem out-of-place. I highly recommend this book, as well as the whole series.

Once again Kathi and her “Kathi Daley Books Recipe Exchange” Group have put together a delicious set of casserole recipes that anyone would find perfect for that Sunday family gathering or your contribution to the book club potluck lunch. We have Ground Beef Stroganoff, Scalloped Ham and Potato Casserole, Chicken and Rice, Chicken Tortilla Casserole, Breakfast Casserole, Hunter’s Stew, Beef à la Flo, and a Taste of Mexico Chicken Casserole. Let’s eat!

A Winter’s Tail earns 5/5 White and Fluffy Soothsayers with a bowl of Hunter’s Stew!
