Is there any better way to celebrate the new year than with hundreds of thousands standing by the Thames awaiting the midnight fireworks extravaganza? Then you are surprised by an amorous New Year’s kiss from a surprise visitor, hit in the jaw by an errant fist and ? unannounced ? a direct link to the criminal mastermind you are seeking shows up!

Laurel Beacham, head of the UK branch of Beacham Ltd, and her unofficial and infuriating investigative partner. Jack Hawkins. become very suspicious when these two people find them. Coincidence, or could they have been tracked? Laurel has unwittingly become a ‘person of interest’ by many criminals, due to her dogged success in finding stolen masterpieces. The thought that this was planned, and not a fluke, puts them both on edge.book

The continuing investigation into a worldwide crime syndicate, art heists, forgeries, moles and murders has already put Laurel in danger, and the resurfacing of Simon Babbage, former head of the UK office, is very problematic and puts her on the run. Why is he back? What is he looking for? Then there is a breech in security and another attack on an art restorer with multiple passport identities.

Jack is in Italy checking on a key figure to their investigation who is in serious condition after being attacked in jail. Is he trading knowledge for a plea bargain? What does this guy know? Who wants him out? Once again, with the assistance from Scotland Yard and Laurel’s team, Cassie and Nico, she and Jack are off to uncover connections with the mastermind Moran, motives of a former employee, and secrets connected to her mother long since gone…a box, vintage jewelry and photographs.

This third book in the Bodies of Art Mystery series is as engaging and entertaining a worldwide romp as the first two books, and I highly recommend the entire series. There is an ongoing thread connecting the books together making it more enjoyable, starting at the beginning of the series with “Counterfeit Conspiracies” and “Marked Masters.”

Ritter Ames has penned a marvelous story with Laurel Beacham continuing to show her cleverness and intuition portraying a strong character, Jack Hawkins as the perfect partner, even though she might not recognize it. Realistic description and dialogue which adds to the excitement…I was thrilled!

Abstract Aliases earns 5/5 Newly Recovered Masterpieces!

  13. Not participating, I have mine already. As much as I love all the books of the series, Abstract Aliases is my favorite. Both the fast paced action of the plot and the wonderful relationship between the main characters as well as Laurel’s relationship with her team are fantastic.
