The 2016 Rogue Festival is almost here. KRL will be featuring several Festival performer preview articles, plus an article on Rogue 2016 itself in the next couple of weeks. We will also be reviewing many of the shows once the Festival begins in early March. Check out our Rogue Performer event page for more information as it becomes available, and you can also check out the Rogue 2016 website.

Los Angeles based Actor/Storyteller Les Kurkendaal is bringing his brand new solo comedy show Terror on The High Seas to the Rogue Festival. This is the fourth year in a row that Kurkendaal will be performing at the Rogue. The show is the story about how he goes on a cruise to Alaska with his boyfriend and his boyfriend’s family and the ups and downs of dealing with his in-laws. Kurkendaal says, “I don’t care if you are straight or gay, if you are in a relationship, the one thing that we all have in common is that we all have to have a relationship with our spouse’s families.”

The show is based on actual facts. Kurkendaal says, “This past summer I did go on an Alaskan cruise with my partner and his family, and I kept a journal. After the cruise was over, I read my journal entries and thought to myself this would make one hell of a solo show. And that is how Terror on The High Seas was born.”

Les is very excited to be returning to The Rogue Festival. He has been touring Fringe Festivals around the world since 2000. Some of these festivals include The Wellington Fringe in New Zealand, The Minnesota Fringe, The Victoria Fringe in British Columbia, The Dublin Gay Theater Festival in Ireland, and many others. Touring Fringes is an awesome way to see the world and meet amazing people. The Rogue Festival is one of his favorites. He says, “I love the Rogue because the audiences are very friendly and supportive.”

Terror on the High Seas will be performed at the Mia Cuppa Caffe’ on Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 5 at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, March 9 at 9:30 p.m.; Friday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m.; and Saturday, March 12 at 3:30 p.m.

  1. Les is one of the funniest people alive!!! His shows are always hilarious. I have been able to see him the last two Rogue Fests, and pee myself every time (in old lady terms, this is a compliment)!
