Laura Bradford first published the Tobi Tobias Mystery series in February 2017 with Death in Advertising. A well-received book focuses on a delightful young woman in St. Louis, Missouri, who has great plans to open her own advertising agency. Tobi Tobias struggles with few clients, so she has to work part-time at the pet store of a close friend which leads to her first murder investigation. In July 2017, Laura brought us another popular and exciting ADventure in 30 Second Death. The Tobias Ad Agency is working on a commercial spot, but a diva-like actress could derail the project that means so much to her business’s success. The actress’s death puts murder in front of the camera. In December 2017, book three was released…and that’s where I come in. A well-written story that included enough backstory and character connections that thrilled fans, and newbies, like me, can easily leap right in. And the award just may go to…book

“And the nominees for are…” Tobi Tobias is thrilled and not shy to admit she hopes to win the Golden Storyboard award from the St Louis Advertising Awards for the best overall ad campaign. But like many creative awards, the competition is tight. The other nominees are all from well-established firms, and that can be intimidated. But, when Deidre Ryan’s name is announced, disappointment clouds the event. But when the staircase collapses and the award winner plummets to her death, disappointment turns to shocking disbelief. Of course, sabotage points to murder, but a big mistake is revealed making everyone question who was meant to die. Greed? Jealousy? Revenge? All top motives. However, despite the fact the Ad community can be a “cutthroat” business, Tobi feels compelled to investigate, and Grandpa Stu? He looks to join in with the rest of the gang.

This third book in the Tobi Tobias Mystery is an exciting, steady-paced ADventure with well-developed and relatable characters. Laura has quite the talent of weaving together dramatic events with real-life reactions, romance, friendship, and humor making for a delightfully entertaining experience. In the background the ins and outs of advertising is explored along with the up and down dynamics between grandfather, granddaughter, and his date and nosy neighbor Martha Rapple. Fans agree making this a very popular series, and newbies, like me, needed not shy away since enough background and character connections is provided to keep you engaged. Don’t forget to check out other Laura Bradford work. A favorite of mine is the delicious three-book Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery, and the six-book Amish Mystery series is endearing and not to be missed. She brings the same creativity and enjoyment to these series that she has provided with Tobi and the gang.
